Banbury sits at junction 11 of the M40, which makes it the easiest town in Oxfordshire to move out of and one of the busiest to move into. A good share of our long-distance work — north to the Midlands, south to London and the coast — starts on a Banbury driveway.
Within the town the job varies enormously by street. Grimsbury is dense Victorian terracing on a grid with almost no off-street parking. The estates west of the centre are laid out on a hill, with split-level access and steep drives. Bodicote, Bloxham and Adderbury are village stock again, several of them ironstone and listed.
We cover all of it, plus the villages out towards Deddington, Cropredy and Wroxton.
Terraces, hills and the canal
Grimsbury and the streets close to the centre are terraced with on-street parking only, and most of it is taken by residents by early morning. We arrive early enough to get the vehicle in position, and where the street genuinely cannot take a large van we run a smaller shuttle vehicle to it.
The Hardwick, Bretch Hill and Easington estates sit on slopes. Steep drives and split-level entrances mean tail-lift work needs a flat standing point, which is not always the drive itself. We identify that on the survey.
The Oxford Canal runs through the town, and a number of properties near Castle Quay and the towpath have pedestrian-only approaches over a bridge or along a path. Those are hand-carry jobs and we price the labour honestly rather than discovering it on the day.
The ironstone cottages in the surrounding villages frequently have low door heads, stone thresholds and tight internal turns. Protection goes on the stonework before anything moves.

- Grimsbury and the centre — narrow frontages, front door straight onto the pavement, and stairs that turn twice.
- Post-war estate housing
- Hardwick and Ruscote. Generally good access, though the slope decides where the van stands.
- Ironstone village cottages
- Bodicote, Bloxham, Adderbury. Thick walls, low headroom, and often a listed-building constraint on what can be temporarily removed.
- Town-centre flats
- Conversions above commercial units with a shared stair and a loading bay that has to be booked.
